I’m nearly finished my first week of the cold shower challenge – as of today, I am 6 days in. Also, my friend Teal has joined me in the challenge. I was going to include a link to her brand new blog, but I don’t know if she’s finished yet. So all you need to know about her is that she’s tough as nails and is kicking-butt in this challenge right now.

If you’re at all interested in signing on to do this 30-day cold shower challenge, then I highly recommend lasooing a buddy in to do it with you. The moral support is definitely helpful. Although, I should mention that I didn’t need to hassle Teal, she joined me of her own accord… and that, ladies and gentleman, is why it’s important to have crazy friends.

Moving on.

Somehow, with every consecutive day, it’s getting easier and easier… if not weirdly enjoyable. In the first few days, I DREADED that stream of ICE COLD water firing down at me from the faucet, but now I’ve reached a place where I sort of look forward to it. They’re pretty refreshing, and I sort of feel like a bad-a$$ when I’m in there. It’s definitely a pretty awesome way to start the day. With that said, I’ve definitely had to use some coping strategies to survive the 5 minutes. Here is the beginning of a running list of ways to survive a cold shower:

15 Ways to Survive a 5 Minute Cold Shower

  1. Spin in a circle
  2. Make funny hollering noises
  3. Punch the shower wall (fake hard – don’t actually punch it)
  4. Recite the ‘Speak the speech’ speech from Hamlet
  5. Sing
  6. motor boat
  7. pretend to run away in slow motion
  8. pretend that you’re swimming in a very cold pool
  9. dance
  10. bounce gently – don’t forget that you’re in a shower, and them floors are slippery!
  11. recite ‘there’s no place like home’ from The Wizard of Oz
  12. smile / laugh
  13. clap your hands
  14. growl like a fierce and dangerous dog
  15. stand crazy still, and just let the cold envelope you and wake you up.

Yeah…. I’ve done every single thing on this list. Some of them are a little bit embarrassing, but hey! Whatever I need to do to survive them.

Have you ever completed this challenge / taken a cold shower? What strategies did you use?

Woo! Cold shower champs!
It’s definitely easier after the first couple of days, especially if you do it immediately following an intense workout. It actually motivates me to work harder, because then the shower won’t be so harsh. It’s a win-win 🙂
Oddly enough, I’m actually starting to enjoy these frigid showers. And like Christine, I also feel a little bad-a$$.

Haha this is hilarious! I would be a hand clapper and hollerer for sure.
It certainly always helps to have crazy friends.

I’m not as brave as you…what I have done is cooled it down, and I’m kind of sticking my toe in little by little – so to speak. I usually take really HOT showers…and that cold water is freaking hard to manage. brrrr lol…but a little each day, till I can actually stand it 5 minutes on ice cold. brrrrrrr

Keep with it! Try to stay under the water a little bit longer every day. You’ll get it! You’ll feel so you kick this challenge’s butt. You have it in you!!

Oh, I am…..brrrrr 😉
