You need to train yourself to matter.
As I prepared to leave the bank (after a signing a document to increase my line of credit by another $5,000), I decided to put on a podcast to occupy my mind and lift my spirits on the way home. The podcast I found did both. Since I was all up-to-date on the two pod casts I normally listen to (The Jillian Michael’s Show and Kyle’s Cult), I found a random one that I thought I’d try.
I’m so happy that I stumbled upon this podcast. The guest speaker, David Wood, was so inspirational and he said some really thought provoking things. A lot of it I already knew, but today I really needed a reminder. Here’s the part that stuck out to me the most:
“No one ever told me that I could choose my own value.”
After realizing this, David went from earning $5 an hour as a server, to earning $10,000 in one month. He laughs, saying that “no one ever told me I was worth $10,000 dollars before.”
Wood recommends that you visualize a number (the number that represents what you’re worth) above your head. The first step in attracting that amount into your life is believing that you are worth that amount. I decided to start with the amount that I have listed as the goal amount on this website.
Something rather large also occurred to me today. Last week as I rode home on the bus, after my shopping adventure with Katie, I was consumed with such a high level of elation that despite the weird looks I was receiving from others on the bus, I just couldn’t stop smiling. In this state, I remember thinking about my dreams and aspirations and realizing how possible all of it was. It hardly seemed like a stretch for me to make $7,000 in month – in fact that it seemed easy. Here’s what I’ve realized, and read carefully because this is gold:
In order to make more money, get that lead role, ace that test, etc, you need to get your mind to a place where that accomplishment is not surprising.
Right now, suddenly making $7,000 in month would be so surprising and so outside of my reality that it could never happen – and if it did happen I would lose it right away (70% of lottery winners will go bankrupt a few years after winning their fortune). If I want to make $7,000 in one month, I need to live my life believing that I am already worth that amount. By doing this the money will show up no matter what, and when it does… I will just continue on living my life. Maybe that’s what’s scary or unsettling about all this. We all have these dreams and aspirations, and we (or at least I do) have these expectations regarding what it’s going to feel like when we finally get what we want. In order to put this theory to work, I’m going to have to let go of my obsession with that feeling, because the journey from where I am now to where I want to be isn’t going to be an impossible 50 foot jump, but rather a steep yet gradual hill (I think this metaphor works). You need to believe that what you want is possible. Even more important, you need to believe that what you want is possible for you.
I have taped that sticky note to my desk so that I can look at it every day. Just as a reminder of what I’ve talked about today. I’d like to end with a final quote from the above podcast:
“The two most important moments in our lives is the moment that we’re born, and the moment that we discover why.”
Hey love- this is GOLD but then it’s hardly surprising because YOU are GOLD. Normalizing what we call the miraculous or the astounding or the impossible is the beginning of realizing that the words we use have the power to create/destroy at whim and our minds believe everything that we tell them. So we must be impeccable with our words, especially to ourselves. And YES you are so worth 7k per month!
