In the mornings you can find me
doing jumping jacks
on my bathroom floor.
I don’t know how I talk myself into these things…
The water gets turned to freezing.
I mean, the last 13 times have been a breeze,
right? Wrong!
Every day I am surprised by
how cold water can get and, as
I suppress high-pitched yelps of pain and shock,
my breath escapes through my skin, and I feel badly
about torturing that tube of toothpaste this morning.
I feel like a tube of toothpaste.
An empty tube.
Empty of logic and common sense, BUT
full of determination and drive —
running in place underneath the shower faucet.
“It’s fun” is what I will later say.
“You should try it!”
I pride myself on being slightly sadistic.
This has been my weekly shower update – in the form of a poem.
I have now completed 13 cold showers! I am almost half way there. I’ve heard that many of you are also taking me up on this challenge.
Specifically:
Teal Fiddler (from “Teal’s Bookbag” )
and
Ligeia Tunnicliffe (from “Shekhinah: The Grace of his Loving Touch”
Keep Going!! We can make it through this together!
If you are also doing the cold water challenge, let me know and I will mention you and your blog on my next cold shower update.
Cheers!

HA! that’s awesome! I only wish I had thought of an ode to cold showers. I too took the 30 day challenge when I read joel’s blog back in March of last year…and now, I am proud to say I’m 500+ days in and i love/hate ’em. They don’t get any easier do they? Awesome! Love it!
Nope, they definitely don’t get any easier. Wow! I’m extremely impressed. I can’t believe you’ve taken so many cold showers. I am 22 days in now. Home stretch. I’ve got to say that I’m pretty excited for my first warm shower in a month. I do think I’m going to continue taking a couple cold showers a week though.
You should write an ode!! I’d read it!
