E Squared by Pam Grout — Energy Experiment #1

Theory: There is an invisible Energy Force or Field of Infinite Possibilities

e squared by Pam Grout

This experiment is about proving that there is something out there that has your best interests in mind. It works on the pretence that if you look for it, it will show up.

In this chapter from the book E Squared by Pam Grout, the topic of God is tackled (including her version of the “Top 8 Whoppers We’ve Made Up About God). I’ve never felt okay with the portrait of a God who punished people who had only made the “mistake” of choosing the “wrong” religion (the whole thing sort of feels like a lottery doesn’t it?). It felt fishy to me, which is why (ever since being introduced to the theory of the law of attraction in university) I have felt intrigued by the idea of a power that is neither  fear-based, inclusive or judgmental.

Much like Pam, “I felt like I was constantly being critiqued by this ‘loving God’ who was sitting up in heaven, gleefully rubbing his hands together whenever I screwed up. Which… seemed to be pretty often.” (excerpt).

I much prefer to live in a world that I believe is for me rather than against me; a world that is willing to forgive me my mistakes because I know that it’s inevitable that I will make a lot of them (as much as I cringe to admit it).

The Experiment

Experiment 1In the first experiment, Pam asks you to devote 48 hours to looking for evidence of the energy you’ve heard so much about. Choose a start time, and a specific end time and, putting aside any skepticism, ask the universe to show you proof of its existence in the form of a blessing within the constraints of the time you’ve provided.

I started the experiment at 7:30pm on Thursday, December 19th, and gave it until December 21st at 7:30pm.

Within the confines of that 48 hour period, the following events occurred:

  1. I got to sign my first “official” autograph on several copies of the play that I performed in nearly 2 months ago (for our most generous sponsors).
  2. I received a Christmas bonus from my work that was 3 times what I was expecting to receive.
  3. I received my first significant cheque for a piece of my writing (over $150 for an article that I wrote for a magazine in Victoria). Happy day!
  4. On a dinner date with Greg, we thought that we’d try out this pizza joint that had won several awards. After arriving we discovered that they’d introduced a gluten-free crust two days prior, and because they were still in the testing stage of the product, we didn’t have to pay extra for it.
  5. After looking for a specific kind of winter jacket for the last 2 months, I suddenly found exactly what I had been looking for, and paid a lot less for it than I expected to have to pay.

That’s five pretty awesome things in the span of 48 hours. Now, I realize how easy it is to be cynical about the results of this experiment. But what’s the point?

This entire book is about changing your perspective and choosing to focus on something different than what you’ve focused on before. It’s true, maybe these events would have happened regardless of if I had conducted this experiment or not. But then maybe only the first would have have occurred.

Maybe this experiment is about teaching you to look for the good in your life, because when you start to look for it, it really does appear everywhere. There’s nothing cynical about that. Here’s to waking up on the right side of the bed in the morning, and living your life with an eye open to opportunity and magic.

I declare this experiment a success.

I am beginning this today, but I am amending the request to the Universe. Instead of asking for proof (which comes across, in my mind, as a demand of the Universe), I am asking for It to make me aware of blessings that I may not have paid enough attention to. Asking for proof may be seen as demanding things to materialize that may not have been there… asking for awareness is noticing what is already in abundance that I may have taken for granted. For me, this will help with sincere gratitude for gifts that are around me constantly, not produced within a 48 hour time span.

I really like that way of looking at it. That makes a lot of sense to me. Actually, I think that’s good wording to begin every day with.

I completed experiment 1 today, two things came to mind during the 48hr hour time span. I witnessed two people close to me receiving these, however I did not.
what does this mean?
