This week the challenge is to keep track of how I spend my day, so that I can see which quadrant I spend the majority of my time in. There are 4 different quadrant. Quadrant I includes tasks that are urgent and important (such as eating, commuting), Quadrant II are tasks that are important but not urgent (such as exercise, self-improvement, meaningful social interaction), Quadrant III are tasks that are Urgent but not important (such as answering my phone, the door), and Quadrant IV are tasks that are not Urgent and Not Important (such as watching meaningless tv, facebook, etc)

. This was my day today:

6:30-7:00: Got out of bed, put on my exercise wear and had a quick snack. Spent about 15 minutes getting myself in a good head space.

7:00-8:00: Went for a 10k run on the treadmill. While running I also listened to an inspirational podcast by the comedian Kyle Cease.

8:00-8:30: showered, got dressed, and put on my makeup

8:30-8:55: cooked my breakfast, ate, and surfed facebook for a little bit.

8:55-9:15: Blow dried my hair, got my stuff together, and headed out the door.

9:15-10:00: commuted to school.

10:00-12:00: I had audition class

12:00-1:00: ate my lunch and chatted with classmates and one of my coaches.

1:00-3:10: part II of audition class.

3:10-3:40: chatted with a class mate.

3:40-4:30: worked on my one man show for scene study. Got some really good/exhausting work done.

4:30-5:00: met with one of my classmates to go over our scene together.

5:00 – 5:30: on my way to a coffee shop to have coffee with a friend, I stopped and grabbed a salad to eat.

5:30-6:30 networking with a fellow actor.

6:30-7:00: commute home.

7:00-7:30: Compiled my favorite websites on my blog roll for this site.

7:30-9:00: worked on my script and wrote 3 1/2 pages.

9:00-9:15: mini break.

9:15-9:45: did some voice work/breathing exercises.

9:45-11:00: threw on a Tony Robbins inspirational DVD, and sat down and colored a picture I had drawn for my one man show for scene study. Then I compiled my costumes and props, and worked the show a little bit more.

11:00-11:30: Where I am now, writing this blog. It is now 11:20, and I expect to publish it in the next 15 minutes or so.

Then my plan is to pack my lunch for tomorrow before getting into bed, and reading until I fall asleep.

If you’re passionate about life, and you’re doing what you love, you will never be bored.

Looking back over my day, I think the fact that I was hyper aware of how I was spending my time made me spend my time really well. Most of my day was spent in Quadrant II, which is fantastic.  Obviously, not every single day is going to be as productive as today was, but this is something I can definitely aspire to. My mission statement says 1% improvement everyday, so I guess the question is, how can I improve tomorrow? What keeps me going everyday is my obsession with learning and with improving. There’s just so much in the world I that I want to know, experience, and achieve. My journey is just beginning, and it’s that excitement that drives me through the day.

Try the exercise yourself. Where do you spend the majority of your time?
