There’s some new things in the works here at The Positivity Project (thank you for indulging me as I pretend to be a business). I have some big goals for this blog and for myself, and I would love your feedback on some of these plans.

I’m really excited about this first change/addition: Saturdays are going to become my wrap-up day.

What does this involve?

  1. First, big surprise, it will involve a short (I’ll try my best) reflection on my week and how I faired in my progress towards my goals.
  2. A recommended novel, podcast, song, blog, movie, etc.
  3. A call to action for all of you, who have taken the time to hear me go on about what’s happening in my life.

So, since it’s Saturday. Welcome to my first official Wrap-up/ Reflection… I’m going to need to come up with a catchier name.

WEEKLY WRAP-UP

My Week in 1 word

My Week in 100 Words or Less

I spent the first half of this week with a headache that got right behind my eyes, and made it difficult to concentrate. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt as tired as I did this week. Fear – that’s the culprit. I haven’t been able to get a good nights sleep because I can’t get past the feeling that I’m a fraud in my new job. There’s also a lot of responsibility that comes with getting what you want. I know that every successful person ever had to fake it to make it, at least in the beginning. I know this, and yet my cranky disposition and sinking feelings of self-doubt definitely got the better of me this week. I let my pain-body take over (see Eckhart Tolle). Now that I’ve returned to the right frame of mind, I’m taking some time today and tomorrow to refocus and get myself ready for another busy week.

Biggest Challenge

My fear of not being good enough. I have a lot of responsibility in this new job, and I am extremely afraid of failing.

I am experiencing this same fear in my voice sessions with Mark, and in my audition class.

Biggest Success

Despite a frustrating voice class on Friday, I made some emotional breakthroughs when it came to my voice today. I realized that I have a lot more power and control than I thought I did. I’m feeling empowered and inspired to keep moving forward.

Affirmation for the Week Ahead

I have control over my happiness. I can choose to be the person who lights up every room she enters. I can choose to inspire others with my positivity and inner strength. Shying away from my ambition and drive serves no one, least of all myself.

My Pick of the Week

I’m really excited about this one. Introducing: Cold Shower Therapy (as seen on the blog Impossible HQ with Joel Runyon).

What is it?

Cold shower therapy is Joel’s answer for overcoming something that you’re afraid of. He has an entire blog post about it (that you can read by clicking here), but here are some of the key points:

“If you can’t do something uncomfortable and difficult for 5 minutes in the shower – how the hell are you going to do something uncomfortable or difficult in real life?”

“If you find yourself self-sabotaging all the impossible things you want to be doing through avoidance and procrastination, cold shower therapy is the best tool I know of to help you cut through the hesitation and start doing.”

“Cold shower therapy shows you how weak of an emotion fear really is.”

This last one is the big one for me.
Seeing as how fear is the big thing that I’m struggling with right now, I thought that now was as good a chance as any to take Joel up on this challenge.

THE CHALLENGE (are you up for it?)

Take a 5 minute cold shower every day for 30 days.

Whew! This is going to be fun?

There are 7 steps for taking part in this challenge (as outlined by Joel)

  1. Choose one project. One goal. One impossible thing.
  2. Find a date to start. Take your first cold shower. (The times you wuss out and back out don’t count). – start counting the first time you get to 5 minutes).
  3. Start counting the showers, once you get to 5 minutes.
  4. Take one 5 minute cold shower, every morning for 30 days.
  5. Throw a 10 minute shower in there just for fun.
  6. Finish your project. Do something impossible. Change your life.
  7. #BOOM

So after looking at my list of milestones, here is my impossible goal for the end of the 30 days:

Run a 5k in under 20 minutes.

(I can currently run one in just over 23 minutes, so to achieve this goal I would need to shave 4 minutes off my time. Let’s say one minute a week)

So it begins. Let me know in the comments below if you are going to be joining me on this challenge. Some moral support would be awesome.

What that said here is my weekly plan for the week: My Weekly Plan August 4-10

It’s going to be a doozy. I’ll see you on the other side.

OH, and in case you need an extra douse of courage. Please dance to this song like a crazy person in your living room.

Feel inspired!
