class with Desiree

This week I got to cross another thing off my bucket list. I got to be part of a fitness video. That’s me on the front right-hand side.

It was an amazing experience and I had so much fun doing it. Plus, I  learned a ton from our incredibly giving teacher Desiree Rumbaugh (a yoga teacher who films with the website that I work for: myyogaonline.com). I think, initially, she may have been a bit nervous about my lack of experience with yoga (I really haven’t been practicing that long), but I think I may have won her over in the end.

Not only was this an incredible experience, but I also learned a lot about my yoga practice and about my mind. With just a few adjustments, my entire practice improved greatly over the two hours I got to film with her. When I went upstairs after filming was done, I didn’t feel weak from having just done 2 hours of yoga (and 30 minutes of insanity in the morning); instead, I felt the strongest that I’ve ever felt. I could feel my feet on the floor. I felt grounded and I felt completely aware of and comfortable in my body. I also felt a little twinge of confidence in knowing that I had done a good job.

Appearing in a fitness video is something that I’ve wanted to do for awhile, and getting the chance to do this on Monday made me realize that the things on my bucket list don’t have to be so far in the future. Time is such a funny thing. Time doesn’t follow any rules, especially in this industry. Anything could happen every day and part of being an artist is opening yourself up to that possibility.

In my previous post I talked about how I think, as artists and people, we need to start taking the pressure of ourselves. When we hold our dreams on this pedestal, of course they seem out of reach and impossible – but they’re not. I used to be afraid to ask for help. I used to think that if I got something I wanted because of someone I knew, that I was cheating. I realize now that this reasoning is faulty. Everyone gets to where they are through the relationships they foster with other people. Life is all about connection.

Life is also meant to be fun, and I am having a lot of fun right now.
